As I mentioned yesterday, I’d like to inspire and encourage the “tourist in your own town” mentality this summer. So I’m doing a series of posts about things to do in specific cities with kids this summer. Over the next few weeks I’ll highlight lots of major cities
across the US. Not only are these great resources if you live in these areas, but they’re also perfect for travel.
Today I want to feature my all time favorite city to visit with my children- Atlanta. (There’s a chance I’m a tad bias considering it’s my hometown.) But honestly, Atlanta is just fabulous for families! The city offers many great destinations and attractions. However, taking it a step further- it offers some of the BEST destinations and attractions.
Though almost impossibly hard to narrow down, here are my top 20 things to do this summer with kids:
- Georgia Aquarium
- Stone Mountain
- Zoo Atlanta
- Six Flags Over Georgia
- The Varsity
- World of Coca-Cola
- Fernbank Museum of Natural History
- College Football Hall of Fame
- Braves Baseball Game (at brand new Sun Trust Park)</li>
- Children’s Museum of Atlanta
- Sky View Atlanta
- Six Flags Whitewater
- Centennial Olympic Park
- Delta Flight Museum
- CNN Center
- Marietta Trolly Ride
- Center For Puppetry Arts
- Chattahoochee Nature Center
- Lanier World
- Yellow River Game Ranch
In addition to these activities, Atlanta offers some amazing parks and recreation areas. A great summer plan can involve a new park and a picnic! Here are a few of my favorite outdoor spots in the area:
- Piedmont Park
- Botanical Garden
- Historic Forth Ward Park
- Woodruff Park
- Chastain Park
- Perkerson Park
**All of the activities listed are within a 1 hour driving radius of Downtown.**
