There are a few things I don’t like about fall: pumpkin spice ANYTHING; shorter days; and the fact that winter is the next season. However, despite these obvious shortcomings- fall is pretty awesome. And, the best part of the whole season- FALL FOLIAGE!

Unfortunately the changing colors peak for such a short window of time, it’s hard to know when to catch them. Also, depending on temperatures and rainfall totals, the peak days tend to change each year.

Thankfully, there’s a prediction map to help us all guess when to try to catch the peak fall foliage in our area. I love how easily you can change the date and see the different parts of the country change!¬†Being in the HOT south where it’s still very much summer- it’s hard for me to believe there are some northern leaves already starting to change color!

Visit the Smokey Mountains website: here to view the map. Also, be sure to scroll through the page for some great learning opportunities for kids. I love how they’ve broken down autumn and explained the science behind leaves changing color. There are also some free coloring sheets you can download.
