As you might have guessed from the title, this post is about the coolest trip ever. Here’s a quick spoiler alert- it wasn’t mine. In fact, our family took a very similar trip at a very similar time. But I can humble myself enough to admit- her trip was WAY cooler!
Allyson is a regular guest writer for Mom With A Map. You can catch up on a few of her awesome posts using these links: Camping With Kids- Part 1 and Part 2 and An Insiders Guide To The Virginia Creeper.
Early last spring Allyson reached out to me with her trip itinerary and a proposal to write about it. At that time we already had a very similar trip planned, but I knew we had a few different destinations so I figured our stories would be different enough to share both. I could never have imagined how incredibly different the trips would end up being!
Allyson and I both shared much of the journeys on our own social media. Because of this, I was able to follow along on their 4-week trip. In fact, her family had TONS of people following along as they traveled across the Eastern part of the country! Their destinations were fun, educational and extraordinarily special for her 3 kids.
After they returned, I waited (patiently…sort of!) for her to write the article. Seriously, there was SO much anticipation for the “insiders scoop” on her trip- I couldn’t wait! I honestly think the last time I was this excited to read something was back when I read The Babysitters Club series. Ha! As soon as her draft hit my inbox- I couldn’t read it fast enough!
Y’all, it’s so good! Allyson managed to pull off a 4-week extended camping trip with kids (ages 8, 6 and 3.) Not only did she live to write about it, but her entire family LOVED it. They loved it so much, in fact, that her husband is currently building quadruple bunk beds in the kids’ room because after 28 days in the camper- they don’t want to be apart! How precious is that?
As Allyson wrote in her article: “We planned this trip to see new sites we have never seen and didn’t know we would walk away closer as a family.” Love, love, love those words! That’s exactly why we travel too.
So I have some bad news and some good news:
The bad news is that you don’t get to read Allyson’s writing today. This was just a set-up for her guest piece. And, I disclosed that in the title, so you really can’t be mad!
The good news is that Allyson wrote so much great information I was able to break it into two posts. I will have those up over the next two days. So, you have a lot to look forward to this week!
*The picture at the top of this post is Allyson’s from The Wild Walk at The Wild Center in Tupper Lake, Upstate NY. This is just one of the MANY reasons hers was the coolest trip ever!*
Be sure to stop back tomorrow to catch Part 1 of Extended Camping With Kids.
