I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating: traveling with your kids is the best thing you can do. It’s the best money you’ll ever spend. And it’s the best investment you’ll ever make. While that’s always been my opinion, now I have science on my side!
A recent study reveals, “An enriched environment offers new experiences that are strong in combined social, physical, cognitive, and sensory interaction,” says child psychotherapist Dr. Margot Sunderland. So in other words, taking your children to new places is actually great for their development. More than that, they will learn from the experience both in the moment and in their memories.
Over the years we’ve definitely discussed our vacation budget, and if the money could be better allocated. Could we do other things with that money that would benefit our children more? Now- with science on our side- I think not!
Your Modern Family wrote a great post on this topic. I love their focus on the quality time spent with children during a vacation. They write: “It doesn’t matter where you are going as long as you make it a fun, memorable experience. You can do that by being involved with your kids. Finding fun things to do, new exciting things to show them and creating a bond that will last a lifetime. Be present in the moment.”
