Refurbishments For Walt Disney World

In order to stay safe, fresh and current, Walt Disney World must close rides at the park from time to time for refurbishments. Although this can come as a surprise to many guests, WDW does a fantastic job of keeping guests up to date. Checking the most current refurbishments schedule before planning a trip can save a lot of heartache on a vacation.

We learned this lesson the hard way. During one of our visits, the beloved Dumbo ride was not operating. I can’t say that the knowledge would have changed our vacation schedule, but we could have been mentally prepared. Likewise, refurbishments and changes occurred several years ago as they expanded Fantasyland. Also, as they relocated some favorite rides from Toontown Fair (like the Barnstormer) during the expansion, the rides were unavailable.

Recently Walt Disney World confirmed 7 upcoming closures due to refurbishments. The most notable renovations will occur on:

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad- Magic Kingdom: Scheduled to be closed from August 8th  to November 18th, 2016

It’s A Small World- Magic Kingdom: Scheduled to be closed from August 22nd to September 15th, 2016

Blizzard Beach: The entire park scheduled to be closed from October 23rd through December 24th, 2016

Typhoon Lagoon: This entire park scheduled to be closed from December 25th, 2016 to March 11th, 2017.

In addition to these short closures, the Main Street Electrical Parade at The Magic Kingdomwill end its run permanently on October 10th, 2016.
