It is the perfect place for travelers of all ages since everyone will find something fun and interesting to do in this island nation. Antigua and Barbuda is one of the safest countries in the Caribbean for families as well.
Here are 6 family-friendly spots I recommend adding to your itinerary if you’re wanting to ensure everyone has a memorable holiday:
1. Dickenson Bay
Dickenson Bay is one of the most popular beaches and tourist destinations in Antigua. It is known for itsclear blue tranquil waters and fine white sand.
Its calm waters make it a great spot for kids to spend hours in. There is also a variety of water activities that children and adults can try, so there is no way anyone in the family will be bored spending the whole day here.
2. D-Boat Water Entertainment Center
The D-Boat Water Entertainment Center was formerly an old tanker transformed into a unique and fun-filled water park. It is permanently moored near Maiden Island and offers a wide range of amenities and activities that will surely delight people of all ages.
The water park has water slides, a trampoline, and a rope swing which you can use to jump into the sea. You can also take park’s boat excursion tour which include snorkeling and feeding stingrays in their natural habitat — something that your kids will love.
3. Antigua Canopy Zip Line
In case you and your family are up for an adventure that will take you high up in the air, head over to the Antigua Rainforest and go on the Canopy tour.
You can choose from different zip lines for you and your kids to take. Each participant will then be strapped on a harness which will take them on an adrenaline-charged journey over the rainforest.
While traversing the zip line, you will get an excellent bird’s eye view of the flora and fauna in the rainforest.
4. Shirley Heights Lookout
Enjoy a 360-degree view of Antigua by bringing the family to Shirley Heights Lookout.
This famous landmark offers visitors fantastic views of the English and Falmouth Harbors and the neighboring islands of Guadalupe and Montserrat.
If you are in this area during sunset, you will also witness a unique and beautiful natural phenomenon known as the Green Flash whereby a green jet of light is created covering the horizon as the sun sets “behind” the ocean.
5. Frigate Bird Sanctuary
To visit Barbuda, you need to arrange a seaplane, private or chartered boat to take you the island.
While in Barbuda, you and your family can spend an hour or two on the island’s stunning beaches. However, the most popular attraction is the Frigate Bird Sanctuary.
Located on the Codrington Lagoon, this bird sanctuary is one of the largest sanctuaries in the world. It currently houses over 100,000 birds with numbers varying during the migration and mating seasons. If your kids are fond of bird-watching, this sanctuary will seem like a paradise to them.
6. Barbuda Caves
Barbuda also has a number of caves that everyone will love exploring.
The most famous and most accessible cave near Codrington Lagoon is the Darby Cave. It is a large sinkhole that is over 300 feet in diameter and around 70 feet deep. The cave is home to palm trees, ferns, and lianas. There are also huge stalactites under the overhang on one side of the cave.
Other caves that you can also consider exploring are the Dark Cave and the Indian Cave.
