It’s spooky season! That means it’s time to decorate, find a costume, and plan a little adventure. There are so many great Halloween destinations to choose from this year.
Here are four destinations to travel to this year for Halloween:
New York City, New York
New York City is known for its annual Greenwich Village Halloween Parade. This nighttime parade starts when the sun goes down and the ghouls come out. The parade was originally created in the 1970’s by local residents who wanted to parade their costumes through the streets, half a century later, it is a must see for the Halloween lover.
The best part of the parade is that anyone can join. All you have to do is sign up in advance and you can walk the parade route in your costume. New York City is a great Halloween destination if you’re interested in showcasing your costume.
Always remember to stay safe and watch yourself as you dodge through streets. Wear a costume that won’t weigh you down or make it hard for you to see or you may get injured by a car and you’ll spend your Halloween looking for a good pedestrian accident lawyer.
Salem, Massachusetts
Salem is the holy land of Halloween. Made famous in the 1600’s, Salem is a place where women who were discovered to be witches were burned alive. This is the setting for one of the most famous witchy Halloween movies, Hocus Pocus.
While visiting Salem for Halloween there are plenty of spooky things to do.
There are walking tours of the city along with events like having a witch’s tea or going to the museum and seeing a reenactment of an actual witch trial. Some modern day witches gather to perform their yearly spells while the town is decorated for Halloween and ghosts and ghouls lurk around every corner.
Sleepy Hollow, New York
You can’t get much more iconic than this Halloween destination. It’s the location of the famous ghost story of the Headless Horseman.
Sleepy Hollow offers a lot in the way of spookiness during Halloween. The most famous event is the Great Jack O’lantern Blaze. The town puts out some 7,000 hand carved pumpkins where spectators can come and walk through the pumpkins and see all the designs.
You can also take a tour of the cemeteries of Sleepy Hollow and learn all about the hauntings and folklore that make this town a premier location during All Hallow’s Eve.
New Orleans, Louisiana
Known as one of the most haunted cities in America, New Orleans, Louisiana, has streets of haunted homes, businesses, and cemeteries. A home for modern day witches, you can have your tarot cards read, have potions made for you, or find talismans to bring you luck. Mixed with the voodoo culture, there are plenty of spiritual journeys to go on while you are visiting.
You can take a ghost tour of the French Quarter, the most haunted and oldest neighborhood in America.
