New York City is fabulous. And easily one of my favorite cities to visit. However, a New York City Christmas takes it to a whole new level. It’s truly over-the-top magical.

When I was younger I had the opportunity to visit NYC several times during the Christmas season. My memories are so vivid, and yet painted with so much perfection I wondered if it was just a childlike dream. Have you ever had that happen? Where a place doesn’t quite live up to your memories?

Having just returned from a trip to New York City, I can verify that it did indeed live up to my expectations. In fact, if anything it’s gotten even better!

If you are planning your first trip to NYC, there are truly an endless number of things I’d recommend seeing and doing. To get started, check out my post New York City: In A Day and On A Budget. I also highly recommend purchasing a CityPass for your first visit. Doing this will allow you to save 42% or more on New York’s 6 best attractions.

On the other hand, if you are making a special visit to New York for the Christmas season there is a whole separate list of must-see things! In no particular order…

I highly recommend walking through the lobby of several notable hotels such as: The Plaza, The Carlyle, Gramercy Park, The Essex House, The Ritz-Carleton Central Park, The Roosevelt, and The St. Regis. The lengths they go to decorate is truly impressive!
