Everybody understands the importance of staying active and healthy while traveling. Traveling takes a toll on the body, as it is a cause of tiredness, dehydration, and overall weight gain. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain a healthy lifestyle while you are visiting new places!
It is easy to over-indulge when you are on a vacation. But it’s important to create balanced and healthy meals. So, ideally, you want to limit meals out as much as possible. There are plenty of nutritious snack options that can keep you full without packing a ton of empty calories.
Another important tip is to keep a bottle of water with you. Otherwise, you are at risk of choosing sugar-heavy sodas or juices.
But, perhaps the most important tip about maintaining a healthy lifestyle on vacation is to keep moving. If you have a hotel gym, you want to make the most of it! Here’s how…
Weight training in a Hotel Gym
Benching or lifting is not for anyone. If the gym facility has weight training equipment, you want to make sure you know how to use them. Unless you are familiar with the proper form to lift weights, it’s best to stay away from those.
If you already know and understand how to use weights safely, it’s the best opportunity to catch up with your training goals and maintain your workout. Remember that lifting weights is suitable for both men and women. However, you need to have an understanding of the average bench weight by age for yourself. Typically, men can lift heavier weights than women, so if you are training as a couple, bear in mind to stick within your strength levels.
Treadmill or rowing machine
Jogging and rowing are both great cardio exercises. You can use any of these machines to warm up before your workout or as part of a cardio-focused session. Typically, short rowing sessions are more effective when you are on vacation. A 10-minute workout of steady rowing works your quads, hamstrings, glutes, core, arms, and back muscles. So, you can set yourself a distance goal, just as 1000m or 2000m, depending on your fitness level.
If you prefer to use the treadmill, short distance runs such as 3 or 5 miles are ideal to get your blood pumping. Let’s not forget that the purpose of your vacation is not to spend your time in the gym! So keep things short and sweet! Why not use the HIIT program that is pre-registered on most machines?
Dumbbells and mat
Sometimes, the hotel gym has minimalist equipment with only a few sets of dumbbells. But, you can use these for both cardio and weight training if you have the right mindset. There are plenty of great online workouts you can copy with dumbbells. You can combine simple moves such as squats, lunges, or even leg bridges with an added weight for maximum effect. A short workout will get your muscles working and burn calories throughout the day.
Using the hotel gym facilities is a fantastic idea to make sure you can keep active when you are on holiday. You don’t need to overdo things but focus on maintaining a good form and being consistent. There’s no need to spend hours at the gym! You will be walking during the day too. But 20 minutes to half an hour can help you stay healthy and strong on holiday.
